Orcas, Buoy Drop & Yard Signs

Transient orcas swam between Blake Island and Harper Pier on November 20th.

A crowd quickly gathered on the pier to watch and take pictures.

Put one in your front yard, the window of your business, or your favorite intersection! Consider ordering an extra to give to a friend or family member.

We will collect orders until Tuesday, November 30th. On December 1st we will place the order at our local print shop.

Pick up details will be sent as soon as we have a firm date. Options will include a set time pick up at the pier and a pick up location in downtown Port Orchard.

Our Buoy Drop event was a huge success! Thanks to all who came out to pier.

“What would it look like to have ferries docked off the end of Harper Pier? On Saturday, neighbors dropped buoys to offer a preview.

Attaching ropes to the buoys, they created an outline in the water of where two 250-passenger ferries, could one day moor, under a proposal floated by Kitsap Transit.

‘It's our way to visualize what they're trying to do,’ said Joy Lee, a Southworth resident.”

Special thanks to Tom Piscitelli for his vision and for creating the Buoy Drop in the rain and shine.

Kitsap Transit Executive Director John Clauson and Kitsap Commissioner Charlotte Garrido attended the event. Friends of Harper Pier asked many questions and expressed their concerns.

Incremental Wins

Since the fight for our pier is a long one, we want to recognize the wins of our collective action as they come.

At the last KT Board of Commissioners Meeting, Director Clauson noted that the 2022 capital budget line item was changed from “Harper Dock Purchase and Restructuring” to “Mooring Dock Alt. Analysis, Purchase & Improvements”.
Director Clauson has verbally committed to funding a comperable study of Southworth. He has yet to allocate funds.
Director Clauson has stated that a location in the Manchester area is also being considered for study.

The electrical circuits upgrade started November 16th. Thank you, Port of Bremerton for acting on fishing and squidding requests!
